The Local Government Academy’s annual “Promoting Excellence” Golf Outing will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course. With just two weeks left before the outing, there is time to register for the outing, either as an individual or with a foursome. Space is limited, so call LaToya Barnes at (412) 237-3171 to register today.
The “Promoting Excellence” Golf Outing is a great day of fun golf on a challenging public golf course. And, if that isn’t enough to convince you to register, here are six more reasons to attend:
• The “Promoting Excellence” Golf Outing is an annual fund-raising event that benefits the Michael P. Lynch Scholarship Fund, a special fund that provides scholarships to municipalities with financial difficulties who are seeking to achieve excellence in local government through education. Through the Michael P. Lynch Scholarship Fund, the Local Government Academy was able to provide scholarships to eight elected officials in five counties so that they could attend the 2009-2010 Newly Elected Officials Course.
• New this year – for $10 you can register for a chance to sink a 50-foot putt for a $5,000 cash prize!
• You don’t have to be a good golfer to have fun and help the Local Government Academy promote excellence in local government. Also new this year, for $5 your foursome can take their chances and let a long-range driver tee off on Hole #2. If you like his spot, you pay $5 to keep it. If you think you could do better, then you get to try and keep your place.
• If you are unable to attend the entire golf outing, but would still like to support LGA, you may join us for dinner at 4 p.m. The cost is $25 per person.
• Cranberry Highlands was named the Best Municipal Golf Course in Pennsylvania in the August 2009 issue of Golf Digest. Recently, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette named the #2 hole at Cranberry Highlands one of Western Pennsylvania’s Best 18 Public Golf Course Holes.
• Cranberry Highlands was designed with the environment in mind. In addition to being a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, Cranberry Highlands is irrigated with the treated effluent from Cranberry Township’s wastewater treatment plan, which is pumped from the plant to a pond at the Golf Course.
Rain or shine! We hope to see you on May 13 in Cranberry.
